Lexington County School Bus Involved in Accident, No Major Injuries

A Lexington County school bus was involved in an accident with an SUV Tuesday morning, according to officials.

A Lexington County school bus with students onboard was involved in an accident with an SUV Tuesday morning, according to officials.

The accident occurred in the 400 block of Blackville Road in Gaston around 7:40 a.m., according to officials. Lexington County EMS and fire crews responded, along with S.C. Highway Patrol and the Gaston Police Department.

Troopers say an SUV traveling down Blackville Road disregarded a stop sign and continued through an intersection when it was hit by the school bus. The school bus, which had the right of way, is believed to have been traveling at approximately 40 MPH, according to Trooper Jones.

Nineteen students on board the bus were being transported to Sandhills Middle School, according to Lisa Ingram with Lexington School District Four.

Eighteen students and the bus driver are being transported to Lexington Medical Center to be evaluated as a precaution, according to Ingram. One student was picked up by a parent, Ingram says. "It does not appear at this time that any injuries are critical," said Ingram.

All three in the SUV are also being transported to the hospital, according to Trooper Jones.
